State Street Announces New Award for
2004 Caledonian Challenge
State Street
Corporation, the worlds leading provider of services to institutional
investors and the principal sponsor of the State Street Caledonian
Challenge, today introduced a new award for this years event. The
Caledonian Courage Cup will honour an individual who has overcome personal
hardship or injury to participate in, and complete, the demanding 54-mile
walk. The 2004 State Street Caledonian Challenge takes place on 19 and 20
June and raises funds for the Scottish Community Foundation.
Completing the Caledonian Challenge is an arduous task for
all participants. The Caledonian Courage Cup will recognize an individual
who has not only gone the extra distance, but also overcame adversity to
complete the walk, said John Corcoran, senior vice president of State
Street, based in Edinburgh.
State Street is proud
to serve as lead sponsor of this event that provides support to the
Scottish community where we have such an active business presence.
The winner of the Caledonian Courage Cup will be
announced in July and will receive a ₤300 cash gift for personal use
and ₤3,000 to be given to one of the many community groups that the
Scottish Community Foundation supports. To be eligible for the Caledonian
Courage Cup, nominees must have completed the walk in its entirety and
submit a 300-word description about the personal hardship or injury they
overcame in order to participate. Nominations may also be made on behalf
of a participant in the State Street Caledonian Challenge.
We are very pleased to expand upon our support of the
State Street Caledonian Challenge with the introduction of the Caledonian
Courage Cup, said George A. Russell, Jr., executive vice president and
director of Community Affairs for State Street.
By
sponsoring the Caledonian Challenge we ensure that the Scottish Community
Foundation is better able to support the programs that best serve the
needs of the local community, especially considering the amazing diversity
of community groups across Scotland. The Foundations mission closely
aligns with the goals of State Streets Global Philanthropy program, which
is designed to help generate and sustain positive change in the
communities where we do business around the world.
In addition to being the primary sponsor of the State
Street Caledonian Challenge for the fourth consecutive year, 150 State
Street employees from offices in Europe and the U.S. will be among the
1400 participants walking for charity.
