TRAILBLAZER POINTS SYSTEM
The object of the Trailblazer competition is to win by amassing more points than any other team in your league. This section explains how points are allocated and therefore what you can do to earn more points.
your team will be awarded points according to how you perform in integral parts of the event:
- the physical challenge: how quickly can you complete the course?
- the team challenge: how many of yur team coomplete the course?
- the fundraising challenge: how much have you raised?
Roughly the same amount of points can be earned in each category, although it should be noted that, unlike for the other categories, there is no maximum limit on the number of points you can amass in the fundraising challenge.
Physical Challenge Points
Points are awarded for speed. The faster your team completes the course, the more points you earn.
Your completion time is calculated as the time elapsed between your scheduled start time and your finishing time. If we delay your start for any reason, we will adjust your time accordingly. If you arrive late for your start, there will be no corresponding adjustment.
Your team's finishing time is the recorded for when the last member of your team crosses the finish line. If no member of your team completes the course, your team will be awarded no points.
As nature has conferred upon most men an innate physical advantage, we level the playing field by weighting the points awarded to each team according to its composition in terms of being an al male, all female, mixed or veterans team. This is done by comparing each team's finishing time against the fastest recorded time in the appropriate category.
If your team matches the record for its type it will be awarded the maximum number of points in this category. for every 15 minutes slower than the fastest time (or part thereof) that it takes for your team to complete the course, you will be awarded correspondingly fewer points.
If your team completes the course in more than 24 hours, your team wil be awarded 0 points (although you will receive points for finishing in the Team challenge section).
Bonus Points
If your team breaks the course record for its type, you will earn bonus points for breaking the record and double bonus points for every 15 minute bloc (or part thereof) that you beat it by.
Top Tips
- Make sure your team is correctly categorised on your team profile as an all male, all female, mixed or veterans team - especially if you had any last minute substitutions.
- Train well, and practise transitions at Checkpoints. Many teams lose time by resting too long at Checkpoints
- Arrive at the Start in good time for allocated Start Time (30-45 minutes before)
- Work together and support each other. It is the time of the last person across the line that will get you the points
- work hard in the final stretch to get within a 15 minute time-band
- Check-in immediately you cross the finish line. It is the recorded time that counts
- Do your best to make sure at least one member of your team completes the course, and in 24 hours, otherwise; null point!
Team Challenge Points
The greater the number of Participants in your team to complete the course, the more points you earn. The better you work together and the more you support each other, the more members of your team who will finish.
